“East Kent Goldings” is a protected designation: only Goldings grown in East Kent can use the name. The flavour profile is unmistakable to anyone who’s drunk English cask ale — earthy, gently floral, with a soft honey-and-hay note that pairs especially well with Maris Otter base malt.
Best uses
- Late additions (15-0 min) in bitters and ESBs — the canonical English ale aroma
- First-wort hopping for a smoother bitterness in lower-IBU styles
- Cask dry-hop at packaging — a small amount goes a long way
Notes on oxidation
Goldings is more prone to “cheesy” oxidation than higher-alpha American hops. Vacuum-packed pellets in our shop are dated; buy fresh, store cold, and use within a year.
