30 litres is the right size for a 5-gallon (19 L) finished batch. You start the boil with about 26 L of wort and lose roughly 3-4 L to evaporation in a 60-minute boil. Anything smaller and you’re either reducing the boil vigour or topping up cold water — both compromises.
Fittings
- Bottom drain on a tri-clamp fitting, so the silicone gasket and ball valve come apart for cleaning
- One side port at the thermometer height
- No exposed threads inside the kettle — important for fermentation hygiene
Heat source
Works on gas (open flame), induction (we’ve tested it on a 3 kW portable hob) and direct electric (using an immersion element through the side port).
